Ways to Earn Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles

Flying on Alaska and Partners

Alaska Airlines is the last U.S. airline to still award points based on miles flown. This can be a great deal for cheap long distance flights.  There is also an Elite Status Bonus of 50% for MVP, 100% for MVP Gold, and 125% for MVP Gold 75k.

We created this table, which you can customize to show you how many points you will earn and the value of those points.

Flying on Airline Partners: Aeromexico, American Airlines (only American Airlines' International Flights and AA flights with also an Alaska Airlines (AS) number), British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Condor, Emirates, Fiji, Finnair, Hainan, Icelandair, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, LATAM Airlines, PenAir, Qantas, Ravn Alaska, and Singapore.

For Example, a roundtrip economy flight from Chicago to Singapore could earn the following Alaska miles: 11,774 (flying on Korean Air), 10,879 (flying on Emirates), 9,598 (flying on JAL), or 9,382 (flying on Cathay Pacific). (Singapore's economy booked into V class, which earned 0 Alaska miles)

You can use ITA Matrix to determine your fare class, use the above link to see the earn rate or WheretoCredit, and use GCMap to calculate distance.

Transfer Partners

You can transfer from Marriott at a 3 (Marriott) to 1 airline point transfer ratio. You can also get an additional 5,000 airline points bonus if you transfer in increments of 60,000 Marriott points. (e.g., 60,000 Marriott points become 25,000 airline points, whereas if you only transfer 59,000 Marriott points, you would only get 19,667 airline points). You could also transfer from Marriott Flight and Night's Package

You can also transfer from Best Western (5 to 1), Choice Hotels (5 to 1), Diners Club (1.075 to 1), Hilton (10 to 1), IHG (5 to 1), and Wyndham Rewards (6 to 1).

Companion Fare: The Alaska Airlines Companion fare can be a great deal. It allows someone to fly with you on a roundtrip flight for a discounted rate (you can estimate the taxes using ITA Matrix). You must book the companion fare within 12 months of its issue date, but you can travel outside that 12 month period. The companion fare will show up in your Alaska Airlines account, and you can redeem it by selecting the discount and companion fare codes section in your "My Account" profile and clicking the "Shop" button. The discount will be automatically added at checkout when you buy a roundtrip flight for two people.  The great thing is that you don't have to be traveling to use the companion fare. You can book it for anyone as long as you book and pay for the reservation.
